Six Undervalued Football Players in The Market Today By: Sportscard Wizard
With the 2009 NFL season more than half way complete, a quick look at the overachievers in the league is overdue. In the world of football cards, names like Brett Favre, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning often rule the roost. However, there are a half dozen other names out there that collector's have largely ignored since their rookie debuts. Many of these guys are still available on in the football card market for a very low price. As a collector and NFL fan, it just might be in your best interest to stock pile some of these names for future reference. The following is a list of underappreciated players in the sports card market we think everyone should add to their collection.
Chris Johnson – while defensive coordinators and NFL fans are keenly aware of CJ's skills, the collector world hasn't fully caught on yet. His stats are comparable to AP's numbers, but when you look at the football cards in his stable, he doesn't demand the same prices. While his cards do have the most value of anyone on this list, he is still drastically underpriced!
Michael Turner – In case you haven't noticed, the Falcons are good. There potent offense doesn't compare to the Rams of the late 90's or the Saints this year, but they put up big numbers. Much of that is because of Charger's castaway and Falcon's star Michael Turner.
Larry Fitzgerald – We know, he's a major force in the NFL and everyone knows it. However, because he's not a running back or quarterback, his cards are largely undervalued. Throw in the fact that he's been in the league for more than a few years and collector's tend to forget about him. Do you know what happens to receivers that catch 100 balls every year? They go to the Hall of Fame
Drew Brees – He's the most interesting candidate on this list. Drew had major hype coming out of college, but suffered through a few down years in San Diego (even though he put up nice numbers). So following his rookie year, the value of Drew Brees cards dropped and they haven't ever recovered to the point they should have. So, his rookies, inserts, and any card in general is a steal. With the numbers that Drew is putting up in the Big Easy, several career passing efficiency records are within his reach.
Andre Johnson – Playing in Houston with the Texans is his biggest downfall. However, AJ averages more catches, yards per year than Jerry Rice! Somebody needs to pay attention to this guy!
Matt Schaub – We're not sure if Schaub helps AJ or AJ helps Schaub, but either way, Schaub is a rising star in the league. Did you know that in the past three years since finally getting the bulk of the snaps in Houston, Schaub has averaged almost 300 yards per game passing? What if we told you that's better than Peyton, Eli, and Tommy Brady?
Others to consider keeping an eye on
-DeAngelo Williams (splits carries with Stewart and STILL is among league leaders)
-Steven Jackson (don't punish him for playing in St. Louis)
-Maurice Jones-Drew (playing in front of the weakest fan base in the NFL)
-Roddy White – (speedy, catches a lot of balls, plays on turf, puts up big #'s)
-Marquez Colston – (he's the new Isaac Bruce, in a better city)
